With the appearance similar to the Foxhound, the Beagle dog comes
under the hound group of dogs. This dog is one of the closest to
original ancestral hound breeds. Beagle dogs are considered to have
existed for more than 2000 years. This breed is a small to medium sized
sturdy hunting dog. This breed of dog is a scent hound and has been
developed primarily to hunt hare or rabbit and track other game. These
dogs are also called as English Beagle, Jelly Dog and Regal Beagle. The
country of origin of this breed is Great Britain. However, it is one of
the most popular breeds in the United States. The most popular Beagle
dog in the world is Snoopy, which is Charlie Brown’s friend and
companion from the cartoon strip named “Peanut”.
